Over the weekend, Grammy winner, Kendrick Lamar made his highly anticipated acting debut in Starz’s hit series, Power. Well, while we already knew that everything Kendrick touches turns to gold, we weren’t really expecting him to kill his first go at acting the way he did!

In this episode, Kendrick plays a homeless crack addict, Laces, who befriends the dangerous and evil Kanaan (50 Cent). When he comes in contact with Kanan for the first time, he’s attempting to sell him gift cards, however, this quick exchange turns into Laces helping Kanaan orchestrate two murders.
Amidst Power‘s core narratives of vengeance and betrayal, Kendrick’s character fits right into the storyline, and we think he would be a great asset for the rest of the series, as his first performance was truly revelatory.
Power hardly ever gets any award recognition, however, we’re hopeful that Kendrick could change that. If he goes on to nab an Emmy nomination for ‘Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series’, like people on Twitter are calling for, it would be the show’s first-ever Emmy nod.
