(Photos) Wale Celebrates Black Love in a New Video Shoot "Black Bonnie"

2018 has been a really busy year for Wale. While the Grammy-nominated rapper has dropped multiple solid projects, singles and videos, the best thing he’s released so far is certainly It’s Complicated. Now, he’s come through with a stunning video for the surprise EP’s standout track: “Black Bonnie“.

Produced by KEYZBABY and Ayo The Producer, the Jacquees-assisted “Black Bonnie” finds Wale rapping about a Bonnie and Clyde-type romance, but instead of committing crimes, him and his lover simply “protest and party” together.

On the track, Wale also tackles police brutality and racial profiling, painting a picture of him and his “Black Bonnie” still being on the run due to the colour of their skins. “It’s you and I ’til it’s suicide/Or ’til the cracker pull us over, ain’t no one around, bang”, he spits on the first verse.
For the accompanying music video, which was directed by Yasha Gruben, we see Wale and his Bonnie (Dear White People‘s Ashley Blaine Featherson) as black couples spanning different time periods and continents — from African royalty to civil rights activist in the ’70s.
